After the War, CMDR Jones was an insurance agent and the family lived in Selma. He was shot and killed by the father of one of his son's friends in response to an argument.

MRS. JONES DIES TUESDAY AFTER SHORT ILLNESS
Funeral Services Wednesday Morning at 10 O'clock
Mrs. Gertrude Tart Jones, aged 84, died at the residence of her son-in-law, E. C. Melvin, at 8 o'clock this morning, after an illness of about 10 days. She was the widow of Captain Catesby ap R. Jones, a distinguished solder and prominent citizen of this city.
She is survived by two sons, Roger ap C. Jones of Selma and Dr. Catesby ap C. Jones of New York City, three daughters, Mrs. Gertrude Jones Melvin and Mrs. Page Jones Thompson of Selma and Mrs. Mattie Jones Haralson of Birmingham and the following grandchildren: Mrs., J. B. Converse, New Orleans; Mrs. James Webb, Demopolis; Mrs. Vandiver Hannon, Captain Catesby ap R. Jones, Misses Page and Virginia and W. N. Thompson, Jr., Misses Martha and Page Melvin of Selma; Mrs. Earl C. Bailey of Phoenix, Ariz., Page and Martha Haralson of Birmingham; five great grandchildren; a sister, Miss Jennie Mabry and a brother, W. S. Mabry of this city.
She was a devoted member of the St. Pauls Episcopal Church. Services will be held at the family residence 518 Lauderdale street at 10 oclock Wednesday morning.
