BLACKFOOT - Kyle DeRoche, 84, of Blackfoot, died May 9, 2001, at his home after an extended illness.
He was born Nov. 8, 1916, in Tooele, Utah, to Leo Edward and Mary Gladys Kinghorn DeRoche. He left home at age 14 and worked cattle for his uncles, Clyde and Clarence Kinghorn. At age 18, he joined the C.C' s.
On August 24, 1944, he married Elva Laura Scott in Salmon, Idaho. They lived in Idaho Falls, Rockford, and for the past 34 years, in Blackfoot. He farmed most of his life in the Rigby, Idaho Falls, and Rockford areas. He was an excellent farmer and his farms showed the fruits of his hard working ethic and the pride he took in everything he did. After he retired from farming in 1967, he worked for E.G.&G. as a plant supervisor for 12 years. For the last seven years, he worked at his son' s business, the DeRoche Short Stop in Blackfoot.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, outdoor sports, and he was an excellent marksman and fly fisherman. He loved fishing with his brothers, friends, and most of all, his sons; although Kyle lacked a formal education, he always stressed the importance of it to his sons and was very proud when they all graduated from college.
Survivors include his wife, Elva DeRoche of Blackfoot; three sons, Larry (Betsy) DeRoche of Cascade, Montana, Dennis (Linda) DeRoche of Blackfoot, and K. "Eli" DeRoche of Boise; one brother, Ray (Arlene) DeRoche of Blackfoot; five sisters, Melba Puckett of Twin Falls, Glenda Barker of Idaho Falls, Donna Johnson of Iona, Idaho, Ileen Munford of Idaho Falls, and Leaha Brosie of Lewisville, Idaho; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Lola Jean DeRoche; and three brothers, Harold, Bud, and Dale DeRoche.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Blackfoot LDS South Stake Center on Riverton Road. The family will meet with friends Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Hawker Hill Sandberg Funeral Home in Blackfoot, and Monday for one hour before services at the church. Burial will follow at the Annis Little Butte Cemetery in Annis, Idaho.
