BECKLEY - The Rev. Herbert Cecil Alford, 91, of Beckley died Oct. 12, 1997, in a Beckley hospital after a sudden illness.
He was retired shift fire chief from Union Carbide with 32 years' service, a retired Church of God minister, having pastored in Putnam and Kanawha counties, and attended Church of God, MacArthur.
Surviving: wife, Reba M. Hale Alford; son, Clyde J. of Chattanooga, Tenn.; daughter, Marie Hicks of Beckley; sister, Mamie Alford of South Charleston; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Prosperity, with the Rev. Muriel Cutlip and the Rev. Gary Ickes officiating. Burial will be in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
