Robert L. Babcock, age 78, Carthage, Mo., passed away Feb. 4, 2011, at St. John's Hospital, Joplin, Mo., after a short illness.
Bob, better known as "Boob," was born Jan. 13, 1933, in Carthage to the late Glenn Babcock and Blanche Harbaugh Babcock. He resided in Carthage his entire life.
Bob worked for Sunray DX and Carthage LP Gas as a truck driver hauling propane gas in the rural areas around Jasper County and especially enjoyed his customers.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Kenneth E Babcock, one daughter (infant) Carla Rose, uncle, Carl "Bud" Babcock, whom he was especially fond of.
Survivors include, daughter, LeeAnn Thompson and her son, Seth Thompson; son, Joe Babcock and his wife, Cherry, and their children, Jacob Babcock, Zach Babcock, Alexi Babcock, Joshua LeMasters and Isaac LeMasters; daughter, Misty Newby and her children, Demi Jones and Gavin Newby; brother, Jim Babcock and his wife, Eva, Carthage; and brother, Dick Babcock, El Dorado Springs, Mo., as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family is planning a private graveside service later in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association, American Diabetes Association or the American Legion.
