Funeral services for August W. Bartel, 85, were held Thursday, May 28, at 2 p.m. at the Methodist Church, with the Rev. W. E. Shields officiating. A family service was held at the Boldt Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m. Mr. Bartel passed away Tuesday, May 26 at his home, 402 Eighth St., N.W., following a brief illness. Mrs. C. L. Weseman and Mrs. L. A. Ericsson sang "In The Garden" and "Asleep In Jesus." Interment was made in the Maple Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Walter Dienst, Richard Brown, Herbert Wagner, and Eugene, Frank and Ernest Chappuis.

August William Bartel, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bartel, was born in Germany on April 14, 1868. He came to America with his parents at the age of two years. The family lived for several years in Wisconsin, and later moved to Rice County, where they lived on a farm in the Roberds Lake area. He attended grade school in Wells township. On October 28, 1897, he was married to Minnie Brown of Faribault. In 1921 he retired from farming, and they moved into the city. For seven years he worked for Peterson Art Furniture Co. The Bartels celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1947. Mrs. Bartel preceded him in death on November 17, 1948. The deceased was a lifelong member of the Methodist church.

He is survived by two sons, Irving of Kent, Washington, and Harold of Faribault; four grandsons; one granddaughter; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Frank Bartel of Faribault. His grandchildren are: Marilyn Bartel, Faribault; Robert Bartel, Tocoma, Washington; Alden Bartel, Kent, Washington; Cpl. Donald Bartel, Marine Corps, Oceanside, California and Cpl. Marvin Bartel, U.S. Army Trieste, Italy.
