When Stephen Burnett died in 1833, his son, Hiram was seven years old, but the court allowed him to choose Orenus Hart as his Guardian. However, for some unknown reason, Smith Burnett, Hiram's Uncle, was given guardianship in Oct. 1840.

Mr. Burnett was one of the pioneer residents of Trumbull County, and a man well known. He was 85 years old and had resided in Vienna Township for many years.
Surviving are his wife and four children.
