C. L. THURMOND
"Old Zip." is probably a native of Tenn. though he came to Victoria at a very early age. Was for many years a salesman in the large establishment of J. O. Wheeler married Miss Maggie McGrew in 1858, and soon after engaged in business on his own account, on the spot now occupied by the bank of A. Levi & Co. on Main street. In 1869 he associated with him in business Mr. C. O. Weller; has served the county as treasurer, assessor and collector of taxes, sheriff and county clerk, in all of which positions he proved thoroughly efficient, and perfectly trustworthy. His family consists of A. Seymur, C. L. Jr., Sam Houston, and Miss Laura, who in 1882 was united in marriage to Mr. James January Jones, only surviving son of the late Judge Feilding Jones.
