James was married to Ann Clancy, b. 1838 in County Mayo, Ireland; d. 1934, Chicago, IL. Ann married second a Mr. Ball and had at least two more children, Mary (b. 1872, m. John Carroll) and Agnes (b. 1882, m. Rice Herman or Herman Rice).
James and Ann had another daughter, Ester, b. May 16, 1862; d. Sep 14, 1954, Baltimore, MD. Ester was known as Sister Pelagia Hendrick a member of the Sister's of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. Sister Pelagia's burial place is unknown.
