Mrs. Ida Peele Austin, 86, of Hatteras, died Thursday afternoon [Sept. 7, 1978] in Chowan Hospital in Edenton following a long illness.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Hatteras and was a member of the Hatteras United Methodist Church.

She was a daughter of the late George Thomas and Minerva Gray Peele and the wife of the late Ivey Austin, Sr.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lucy Ballance of Hatteras; two sons: Ivey Austin, Jr. of Hatteras and Clyde Austin of Ocracoke; three sisters: Mrs. Wilma Scarborough and Mrs. Margaret Quidley of Hatteras, and Mrs. Lucy Daniels of Seattle, Washington; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon in the Hatteras United Methodist Church by the Rev. Joseph Moser. Burial followed in the family cemetery in Hatteras.
