Rena Mae Matheson, 89, of Hayesville died Monday, August 22, 2011 in a Clay County care center. She was a native of Towns County, GA, but had lived in Clay County most of her life. She was a homemaker and was of the Christian faith.
She was the daughter of the late Robert and Minnie Matheson Ledford. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Jackie and Bobby Matheson.
Surviving are her husband, James W. "Bill" Matheson; three daughters, Doris Jean Overton and husband, Billy of Powell, TN, and Linda Darlene Long and Delores Turrill and husband, Marty all of Hayesville; two sons, Billy Ray Matheson and Charles Matheson both of Hayesville; two sisters, Robenia Merritt of Hayesville and Reba Rigsbee of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Reuben Ledford of Canton, OH; and 13 grandchildren and several great and great great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, August 24 in the Chapel of Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville with the Rev. Clark Moss officiating. Interment was at 10:00 AM Thursday, August 25 in the Myers Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jason and Jonah Matheson, Chad Hall, Ethan and Andy Long, and Billy Overton. Slade Sloan served as honorary pallbearer.
The family received friends from 5-6:45 Wednesday evening at the Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville prior to the services.
