Mrs. Josephine Merritt Hess, 73, of Winburne, widow of Albert Hess, died unexpectedly on Sunday evening at 5:45 o'clock at the Philipsburg State Hospital, where she had been a medical patient for 18 days.
The former Jospehine Merritt, she was born August 12 1880, of Morgan Run, a daughter of the late Bretren and Catherine Colter Merritt. Her husband died a number of years ago. She was a resident of Winburne for the past sixty-five years.
Three children survive their mother: George, of Dover, Del.; Mrs. Mary Dixon, Philipsburg, and Mrs. Beatrice Van Atta, of Pittsburgh.
Eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, also the following brother and sister survive her: George E. Merritt of Sentinel, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Martha Straw, San Diego, California.
