CANTON, Ohio — Benjamin R. De- Martinis of 521 Bedford
Ave. NW, Canton, Ohio, formerly of Hamilton Avenue, Farrell; and Hull Street, Sharon, passed away peacefully with his loving family at his side at 10:36 a.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, in his residence after a brief illness. He was 84.

Mr. DeMartinis was born Dec. 11, 1920, in West Middlesex,
a son of the late Anthony and Ermina Zappa

DeMartinis. As a 1939 alumnus of Farrell High School, he was a standout athlete, captain of the wrestling team and the first to go to the state tournament. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1940 and then in the Army Air Force during World War II, when he was a radio operator
mechanic gunner.

Bennie, as many knew him, retired in 1982 as a fitter from
the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse
Electric Corp., where he was employed for more than 40 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286 and American Legion
Post 160, all Farrell. Bennie was a former Boy Scout leader with Troop 1 and was a committeeman in the Fifth District for Mercer County Board of Elections.

He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing
with his sons and nephews, camping, golfing and bowling.
Earlier in his life, he was a pitcher for the Westinghouse
softball team and was a wellknown boxer, belonging to
Veteran Boxer Association, Ring 5. Bennie also was a member of International Union of Electrical workers
and served as a union steward and group leader.

His wife, Shirley DeMartinis, whom he married July 1,
1975, survives at home.

A beloved father, he also leaves: two sons, Robert P.
DeMartinis, Sharpsville; and Benjamin R. DeMartinis Jr.
and his wife Janice Murray DeMartinis, Vienna; three
stepsons, Ted "Herbie" Mitchell and his wife Marcia;
Randy Mitchell and his wife Karen, all Canton; and Jeffery
Hiple and his wife Lori, Sharon; and two stepdaughters,
Lisa Houle and her husband Larry, Sharon; and Christine Carrico and her husband Ed, Canton. Also surviving are: three sisters, Lucille Kauffman, Sharon; Johanna "Jenny"
Vernille and Anne Baldarelli and her husband Levio Baldarelli Sr., all Hermitage; and 13 grandchildren and 21 greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers,
Frank, Angelo, Nicholas and Daniel DeMartinis; two sisters,
Eleanor Casciato and Ida Currie; and his first wife, the
former Betty Novak.
