Joyce passed away at home on August 29, 2011 with her children by her side.
Joyce was born on December 6, 1929 in Dallas, Texas and moved to El Monte, California when she was five years old. After graduating from El Monte High School, Joyce married and raised four children. Joyce worked as an accountant for K-Mart in El Cajon for twenty years and at Clancey's Towing in El Cajon for five years. She was a volunteer election polls worker in San Diego County for 45 years. She was a life long member of The Order of the Eastern Star. Joyce was a 35 year season ticket holder for the San Diego Chargers. Some of her fondest memories are meeting several players - Lance Alworth number 19, Ryan Mathews number 24 and her favorite Antonio Gates number 85. Joyce took her children and grandchildren to many Charger games. It was her pleasure to spend a Sunday afternoon at Charger Stadium with a family member by her side.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, Billie and Brian "Bud" Wofford.
Joyce is survived by her four children, Susan Hawk, Bill Willard, Debi Vardeh, and Teri Olson; grandchildren, Amber Helms and Lindsay Spurlock; sons-in-law, Scott Steeper, Henry Vardeh and Jeff Olson; great-grandson-in-law, Sean Helms. She is also survived by her six kitties which she dearly loved.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley from 6 to 9 p.m. Chapel Service will be held on Wednesday, September 7 also at Frye Chapel at 10 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
