John Richard Burford, 81, Macon, Mo., formerly of Lewistown, died Saturday, June 7, 2003, in Macon Health Care Center, Macon, following a lengthy illness. Born August 30, 1921, near Monticello, in Lewis County, the son of Hayden Mack and Gladys Fern Kerfoot Burford. He married Anna Mae Stone, June 10, 1945. Mr. Burford lived most of his life in Lewis County, where he farmed, raised cattle and was employed by the Lewis County Rural Electric Coop of Lewistown. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting with his coyote dogs, fishing, and trapping. Mr. Burford was a member of Lewistown Baptist Church, and also attended the LaPlata, Atlanta, and Ewing Baptist Churches. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Ann Gower, St. Louis, and Sheila Fern Bealmer and husband, Darrell, Atlanta; five grandchildren, Jeff Gower, Jason Gower, Kim Shelmadine, Kay Petre and Kelly Wilson; eight great grandchildren, Cody Gower, Brian, Jessie, and Cheyenne Shelmadine, Hayden and Haylee Petre and Shiloh and Brad Wilson; one brother and sister-in-law, Junior and Betty Stone; two nephews, cousins, friends and other relatives.
