When Pharailada "Florene" de Dobbelaere was born on June 11, 1911, in Thielt, Belgium, her father, Camiel, was 37, and her mother, Marie, was 31. With her parents and four siblings, she immigrated into the United States in March, 1920. She married Edward Francis Meyer on February 6, 1929. Edward and Florine owned and operated the M&D (Meyer and Dobbelaere) Market in Shawnee for 35 years. They had three children in 10 years. She died on December 31, 2000, in Shawnee, Kansas, at the age of 89, and was buried there.
