He was a city of Murphysboro alderman in 1875 and again in 1876, 1878, 1879. 1880, 1881, 1883, 1884, 1896, 1897, 1899 & 1903

Note: The MMB was a unit raised by the Federal government, so it does not appear in the Illinois state Civil War rosters. It was conceived by Charles Ellet and was called at first Ellet's Ram Fleet, since the objective of the ships was to ram Confederate boats and sink them. When the unit was disbanded in 1864, the name was changed to Co A 1st Mississippi Marine Brigade.
