William F. Eggleton was born on March 1, 1843, in Pennsylvania to Albert and Elizabeth Eggleton. He married Mary Faunce about 1862, probably in Philadelphia. Mary and William lived in Philadelphia where William was employed as a fireman. They had four children; W Y Eggleton, William Laurence Eggleton, Albert L Eggleton, and Estella May (Stella) Eggleton.

William enlisted as a Private in Company F, 29th Infantry Regiment Pennsylvania on January 8, 1864. He was mustered out of Company F with a disability discharge due to a wound in his left had. He was mustered out on March 3, 1865. During William's enlistment, the Regiment was in the West and fought in Georgia including Atlanta & Savannah.

They were living at 1112 E. Palmer Street when William died of chronic kidney disease on February 28, 1908. William was buried in the North Cedar Hill Cemetery.
