Both of her husbands, her sons, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, and several grandchildren were veterans. Her favorite time of year was her birthday when the whole family, friends, and neighbors gathered in her yard for a huge picnic dinner. It became a tradition and nearly every year was celebrated with cake, food, games, photos, and fellowship until her death. She loved to sit on her front porch, in her rocking chair, and talk with family and friends. Wells Funeral Home of Canton was in charge of arrangements. With Reverend Wallace Britt and Reverend Gene Aikens officiating, she was buried in Bon-A-Venture cemetery, Old Clyde Road, Haywood County, North Carolina.
