From the Nashville Journal, (IL), Thurs., May 20, 1954:

MRS. JOHN DOWNES
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Irvington Methodist church for Mrs. Frances Lee Downes, 56, of Irvington, who died of a heart attack early last Thursday afternoon. She was pronounced dead upon arrival at St. Mary's hospital in Centralia and 1:45 pm. Rev. Raymond Sweitzer officiated and burial was in the Richview cemetery.
Mrs. Downes was born in Bergman, Ark., the daughter of Andrew Jackson and Mary Ann Bailey Roberts but had lived in Irvington for 19 years. She was married to John W. Downes in Harrison, Ark., who died Aug 24, 1951.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Stella Mae Downes, of Jacksonville, Mrs. Eva Faye Merchant of Centralia and Mrs. Sara Ann Valentine of Yuma, Arizona; six grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Sara Jane Lay of Harrison, Ark.; and two brothers, Hubert Roberts of Harrison, Ark., and Howard Roberts of Oklahoma.
