She was born at home on April 27, 1923, in the Town of Linwood. Minnie was the daughter of the late Carl and Margaret Callows. She attended River Valley School in Linwood and graduated from P.J. Jacobs High School in 1941.
Minnie married her sweetheart, Claude "Bill" Byron Barden, on June 2, 1945. They lived on their farm all of their married life and raised four children: Brenda, Carl, Sandra, and Pamela.
Over the years, Minnie held several jobs, including working at Joerns while her husband served during World War II; transporting children to school and cleaning the River Valley School; tying fishing lures for Weber Tackle; making beaded booties for the Hand-Craft Company; and working the counter at Woolworth's where she was known for making a scrumptious cheesecake.
She was especially proud of her family. Minnie loved her flower gardens, taking trips with her family, camping, family picnics, and taking care of her grandchildren. When time allowed, Minnie also enjoyed playing games and going to the local casinos.
Bill and Minnie often had a full house and hosted many neighborhood get-togethers in their garage affectionately call the "chicken coop". Minnie graciously welcomed relatives to live with her family from time to time. She was known to family and neighbors as a great baker; she never had to measure anything, but everything always came out wonderful. All celebrations featured her terrific cooking: homemade noodles, soups, pies, cakes, and other desserts.
Survivors include her son, Carl (Patricia) Barden; daughters, Sandra (Anthony) Zalewski, & Pamela Barden; son-in-law, Carl Karcheski; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Susan) Karcheski, Christopher (Christine) Barden, and Matthew (Kelly) Barden; as well as 6 great grandsons; 4 great granddaughters; 2 great great-grandsons; and sister-in-law Elsie (Boettcher) Callows.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl & Margaret Callows; husband, Claude; daughter, Brenda Karcheski; grandson, Timothy Karcheski; sisters, Bertha Roshak & Iris Zurawski; and brothers, Warren, Charles "Buck" & Donald Callows.
The Barden family would like to thank all the dedicated employees at the Portage County Health Care Center for their compassion, support, and professional care of their beloved mother.
A Celebration Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Boston Funeral Home. A time of visitation and sharing of memories will precede from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Graveside prayers and traditional burial will follow the service in Forest Cemetery.
