Christian Engel and his wife, Carolina Engel were early settlers of McLean County. They were Germans from Russia. In the fall of 1902, they came from a small town called Katsback, Near Odessa, a German settlement in Russia. First they came to Harvey, as Christian had a sister who lived there. Then the next spring, they moved to a homestead about six miles east of Garrison. With them came four sons, Wilhelm, Gothielf, Rudolf and Albert. As the family grew up, there were three more boys and two girls. They lived on the farm and in 1946, moved in to Garrison and the younger boys took over the farming. Christian passed away on February 7, 1943.
