"Joseph A. Seigfried Died in Hospital after Brief Illness"

Jospeh A. Seigfried, son of Samuel and Mary Seigfried, was born at Humboldt, Allen County, Kansas, November 11, 1874, and passed away at the St.Joseph Hospital in Keokuk, Iowa at 10:15 a.m., September 25, 1942, after a brief illness of one week. When he was just an infant his family moved to Hancock County, Il., in which he has spent the remainder of his life. May 11, 1889, he was married to Minnie E. Gehle. They went to housekeeping on a farm two and one half miles west of Adrian, Il. He was a prosperous farmer on this farm and two other farms within a one-half mile. They resided on the farm until five years ago when he and his wife moved to Adrian, where he resided til his death. To them were born six children, all of whom are living. They are: Mrs. Hubert Thomas and Wayne Seigfried, of Burnside, Ill.; Everett of Carthage, Il.; Clifford of Niota; and Mrs. Lela Sargent of Adrian. There are also twelve grandchildren living, three brothers, Mark and Alex Seigfried, of Independence, Mo., W.M. Seigfried, of Keosauqua, Iowa and Mrs. Clara Conn, of Independence, Mo. Our father has passed to a land beyond. We will miss him much "tis true, but it is for us to carry on, so that we will meet again in that land anew." Funeral services for Mr. Seigfried were held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Christian Church of Adrian. Services were in charge of Rev. J.E. Vanderwood, with songs, "In the Garden", and " Beautiful Isle of Somewhere", by Mrs. Ernest Northup. Interment was in Powelton Cemetery. The pallbearers were: George Carlisle, Emery Mapes, M. G. Lambert, Homer Seigfried, Ernest Seigfried, Elbert Lambert."
