Son of William J. Robins, the captain of a ship sailing between Liverpool, England and Boston, MA and Louise De Mahurin, the daughter of a strict Hughenot widow who disowned her. They both died in 1863 - William at sea and Marie during a second childbirth. Charles was "adopted" by the Russells to raise and they moved to Lowell, MA. His two week old brother was given to a young couple in the neighborhood.
As an adult, Charles became a travelling newspaper reporter. He married in 1893, but his first wife Evie Rose Roberts died giving birth to twins. Evie and Willie were adopted and raised by William and Sara Harris in Norfolk, VA. Charles married Mary Howard Spiers Sep. 1895 and had six children (3 living to adulthood). They divorced in 1906 as he had earlier "abandoned" the family. Charles reappeared some 20 years later and lived with his older children. He died Nov. 21, 1936 in Norfolk, VA.
