ABERDEEN - James Hopkins Box Sr., 89, died Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at the V.A. Hospital in Memphis. He was born July 23, 1918, in Aberdeen to Isaac Oliver Box and Ladye Margaret Page Box. He lived most of his life in Aberdeen and lived his aging years with his daughter and son-in-law in Bartlett, Tenn. He graduated from Aberdeen High School and attended Ole Miss in Oxford. He was a highly decorated Army Captain, serving in World War II. He was a retired rural mail carrier in Aberdeen and had been Monroe County Service Officer for the American Legion. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Aberdeen.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church of Aberdeen with the Rev. Oliver James Box officiating. Burial will be in the Oddfellows Rest Cemetery with military rites. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home of Aberdeen is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include one daughter, Terry Box Cummings and husband, William A. "Bill" Cummings, of Bartlett, Tenn.; one son, James Hopkins Box Jr. and wife, Kathy, of Aberdeen; his niece, Joyce Terry Brand and husband, Allen, of Aberdeen; one sister, Beatrice Box West of Prairie; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Louisa Terry Box; a twin sister, June Box Futch; and a sister, Mary Lou Neely; and two brothers, Rev. Page Box and Eugene Box.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Aberdeen.
