Funeral services for Miss Roxie York, popular Fulton seamstress, were held on January 29, 1971 from the First United Methodist Church. "Miss Roxie" died at 2:30 January 28 at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo after suffering a stroke only two days before. She was 77 years of age. She was the last surviving member of the family of John Harmon York and Mary Martin York, who were pioneer citizens of Itawamba County. "Miss Roxie" was the teacher of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class at the church for several years. She was secretary of the class at the time of her death. She had been a member of the church for 67 years. Burial was in the Friendship Cemetery with McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in charge. Her nephews served as her pallbearers. She leaves 26 nieces and nephews.

Among those out of town attending the funeral were Rev. and Mrs. Edgar Isbell and Bill of St. Louis, Mo., Rev. and Mrs. Paul York of Columbia, Mo., Mrs. Bill DuPree of Hattiesburg, Mr. and Mrs. James Alfred Stockton of Memphis, Tenn., Rev. and Mrs. Roy A. Greshaw of Hollandale, Mr. and Mrs. William "Fuzzy" York, Becky and Bill of Greensboro, Ala., Mrs. F. D. Autt Smith and Mrs. Oba Meador of New Albany, Mrs. Amos Marlin, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Nanney, Mrs. Charles Long, Mrs. Verla Watson, Mr. and Mrs. James Rasberry and Mrs. Wade King, all of Tupelo, Rev. and Mrs. Elbert Boutwell of Guntown, Mrs. Ruth Little and John of Verona, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Barden of Kenosha, Wisc., Mrs. Jocie Herndon, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Martin of Nauvoo, Ala., Mr. and Mrs. Howard Comer, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Hood of Tupelo.
