Funeral Services In Bienville For Lawson Caskey
Funeral services for the late Lawson B. Caskey, a resident of Honolulu, Hawaii, and formerly of Bienville were held last Friday afternoon at the Bienville Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Middleton, pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. A. S. Newman.
Interment was at Liberty Hill Cemetery with graveside services being conducted by the Rev. William Worrell of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer of ruston.
Mr. Caskey was born in Bienville on May 18, 1911, the son of the late John and Laura Caskey. He graduated from Bienville High School in 1927 and later attended Louisiana State University. In 1929, he enlisted in the United States Army as a private. He retired in 1959 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
During his long Army career, Caskey has served in the Infantry and became a master paratrooper and in this capacity participated in the Jump on Corregidor.
At one time he served on the staff of General Douglas MacArthur and later served on the staffs of General Matthew Ridgeway and General Alfred Greunther at SHAPE Headquarters in Paris, France.
At the second inauguration of General Dwight D. Eisenhower as President, Lt. Col. Caskey was in charge of the military contingent in the parade. The Lt. Col. was a graduate of the Army War College and the National War College.
Caskey had resided in Honolulu, Hawaii since 1964 and had attended the University of Hawaii. he was a member of St. Clenent's Episcopal Church and was elected to serve on its Vestry in 1967. He organized and directed the Makiki Summer Fun Program, a highly successful recreational program for under privileged children in Hawaii.
Mr. Caskey is survived by his wife, the former Lucy Elizabeth Boyd of Bronxville, New York and by eleven brothers and sisters, D. E., Willie, Floyd, Ira, John and Birtis Caskey, Mrs. Annie Mae Loe, Mrs. Laura Lee Crawford, Mrs. Lena Bailiff, Mrs. Irene Dare and Mrs. Lillian Hennigan.
