Trinity Lutheran Church was the scene of a large gathering, Sunday when a memorial service was conducted in honor of Alarik Holt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Holt, south of Lindstrom. Alarick lost his life during the last war when the B-29 Bomber in which he was serving crashed near Singapore. He had 800 hours and 45 minutes of flying time crossing the famed "hump" in Burma country many times. When the plane crashed two explosions killed all but three of the crew of eleven men. One of the survivors, Sgt Gerald Roberts of Texas was at the services here Sunday. He came with his wife to attend the ceremonies and visit with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Holt, his buddy's parents. Alarick left the States on Easter Sunday in 1944 going first to Egypt where he spent a few days and then flew to Burma. Two other friends of Alarick's, Maynard Jonason who was with him 17 months in the service but not along on the plane crash, was also at the church services, as was Allan Hanson a member of the crew. Officiating at the services Sunday was Rev M. A. Haker, who paid an excellent tribute to the deceased. A telegram from Alarick's pilot which arrived a day or two later stated the following tribute to the Lindstrom youth who gave his life in the great struggle. The telegram read "May I pay my tribute to Tim, a fine, honest, cheerful, courageous lad, the outstanding man of an outstanding crew, truly a good soldier." Signed Harvey Wilson, pilot.
