1st LT Francis H Potwine was a Bomber Pilot in the 10th Air Force, 490th Bombing Squadron stationed in India during WWII. The squadron flew the medium bomber B-25 Mitchell.

1Lt Potwine was Killed in Action over Imphal, India on May 28, 1944, along with the entire crew: Sgt James Cowie of Wisconsin, Pvt George Dobbins a gunner of North Carolina, Staff SSgt Clayton Ewing of Nebraska, and 1st LT Herbert Jewett the navigator of Idaho. All members of the crew were returned for burial Sept 27, 1949, in a group grave at the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St Louis Missouri section 82 site 100.
