When Thomas Herbert Klepperich was born on 17 July 1937 in Ramsey County MN, his father, Herbert, was 28 and his mother, Margaret, was 24. He married Carol E Steffy on 11 June 1960 in Hennepin, Minnesota, USA. He died with the Forest Service crew, fighting an out of control fire on 7 October 1971 in Santa Barbara, California. Three other firefighters died with him. He was only 34, and was buried in Lone Pine, California, USA.
