"COLUMBIA, S.C. - Algernon Polan Banks, brother of Mrs. Gladys Davidson of Newport News and Mrs. Charles Spear of Tabb, died Thursday [May 3, 1984] in the Manor Care Nursing Home, Lexington, S.C. Born in Norfolk, he was the author of "Black Ivory" and the screen play "The Great Lie" which starred Bette Davis and Mary Astor. Additional survivors include a sister, and a brother. A funeral was held Sunday in Hebrew Benevolent Cemetery, Columbia. Dunbar Funeral Home, Columbia, is in charge."
