Eunice Polk was the daughter of Marshall Tate Polk and Laura Theresa Wilson. She was the niece of President James K. Polk.

After her father died, Eunice's mother married Dr. William Caldwell Tate, and Eunice and her brother Marshall Tate Polk, Jr., moved to Morganton.

Eunice was among the first if not the first person to be buried in Grace churchyard.


(The Rev. William S. Stoney mentions Eunice Polk in his Historical Sketch of Grace Church.He names her as "the sister of Mrs. Tate". She died at age 14. An earlier listing names her as daughter of Laura Tate by a former marriage.)
