Jabez Shaw who fought in the Civil War. He was 29 when he joined Battery A, Second Light Artillery 3 October 1864 and mustered into service 4 October 1864, in Peoria, and was mustered out 27 July 1865 in Springfield, Illinois. His residence when he joined was listed as town of Hopewell, county of Marshall. He was buried in Moffatt's Cemetery in July 1880. He and his wife Mary (Noden) had the following children: Annie or Nan, Maggie, Fanny, Ruth , Jabez, Joseph, Richard, Mary, Nellie, Mabel and Noden. In June 1880, on the Federal census in Limestone township, Peoria, Illinois, it states that he hadn't worked in 6 months, due to absess of the lungs. He was a coal miner.

His daughter Ruth, married 1st John Sheriff and had 5 children. Ruth married 2nd Thomas Hodgson and had 3 children in Colorado. Their 1st son, Thomas E. Hodgson, was my uncle.

Update: According to the 1956 Illinois Honor Roll, Private Jabez Shaw died on July 2, 1880. Thanks, Baxter
