In 1871, James MaGorman and Maryanne McLay brought their two sons, James and William from Ayrshire, Scotland to America, where the elder James found work in Coaltown (now Angus, Iowa). When the coal mines were spent, James followed the work, eventually residing in El Paso County, Colorado, where his son, William followed. At age 21, James, Jr. took a wife, in Jasper County, Iowa, in 1890 and William followed suit and married Anice Willey, daughter of David Willey and Mary Ann (Mitchell) Willey, on January 1, 1891, in Jasper County, Iowa
