TO BURY VETERAN OF CIVIL WAR
LOVELOCK, Sept. 11 - The funeral of Alexander Van Winkle will be held tomorrow afternoon at Arobios hall under the direction of Lovelock Post No. 6, American Legion. Capt. A. H. Scott will deliver the eulogy and a quartet composed of friends will sing several hymns.
The pall-bearers are to be W. C. Black, M. A. Herr and Pern Walker, Spanish-American War veterans; Tex Wardlow, C. A. Murray and Michael Cawley, veterans of the World War. Honorary pall-bearers will be William Biggs and J. H. Green, Civil War veterans, and J. M. ("Dad") Green, a Confederate soldier.
Mr. Van Winkle was one of the few surviving Civil War veterans in Lovelock. He was seventy-four years old and had made this his home for seventeen years. He died early, Monday morning following an illness of ten days. When a boy he ran away from home to enlist in the Union army, served during the last two years of the war and enjoyed relating events of Sherman's march to the sea in which he participated.
After the war he crossed the plains in an ox team. He followed farming in California for several years and then came to Lovelock and followed mining until the time of his death.
Besides his daughter, Mrs. A. J. Ullman of Templeton, Ia., who was with him during his last illness, a twin brother, Thomas, of Wichita, Kan., survives him; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Arganbright of Ottumwa, Ia., and Mrs. Mathew Arganbright of Hedrick, Ia.
Interment will be in Lone Mountain cemetery.

enlisted February 20, 1864, Company F, 7th Iowa Infantry. (He was probably only 16); and mustered out on July 12 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.
