Steven Dale Benton, 67, of Brownfield, Texas, passed away Friday, August 19, 2011 in Lubbock, Texas.

He was born September 3, 1943 in Brownfield to W.L. "Doc" and Della B. Benton. He graduated from Union High School and then attended Texas Tech University. Steve married Judy Jackson on April 27, 1962 at her parents' home in Wolfforth. He worked most of his life in high-steel heavy construction and in 1987 returned to Brownfield, where he farmed south of Union until he was licensed as a Master Plumber and owner of Benton Plumbing. He and his wife operated their plumbing company for many years until his health forced him to retire. He surrendered his life to Christ in 1967 and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church for many years. Steve was first and foremost a loving husband and father. His favorite pastime was his motorcycle. He spent many times modifying and riding his Harley Road King and taking his grandchildren and great grandchildren riding.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents.

Steve is survived by his wife of 49 years, Judy of Brownfield; two daughters, Stacy Benton and Sonya Betterton of Brownfield; a son, Steven L. Benton of Brownfield; nine grandchildren, Jaython, Steven and Alisha Betterton, Kendra and Morgan Halsell, Terra Benton and Adrian Benton, all of Brownfield, Zak Benton of Denver, Colo., and Aleah Benton of Crosbyton; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, Jim Benton and wife Yvone of Dayton and Ed Benton and wife May of Lubbock.
