Allie Surman "Bill" Key, 88, of Boise, Idaho, died peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011. "Bill" was born February 12, 1923, in Post, Texas. He was the 13th and last child of Emma Belle (Haynes) and John Calvin Key.

Bill was patriotic, serving his country in World War II, from 1944 to 1946. He fought in the battles for Okinawa and the Philippine Islands and helped the people of occupied Japan.

Bill was a bona fide cowboy. He worked as a ranch foreman in New York, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. He was skilled in working with stock and he trained cutting horses and herding dogs. He was a hard worker, even in his 80's, and didn't take much time for recreation. He loved people and let them know it. He was kind, gentle, considerate and patient.

His children knew he was a spiritual giant and looked to him for guidance. He was a High Priest in the LDS church and served countless hours in the temple in behalf of his ancestors. With his wife, Lucille, he served a mission in South Dakota, 1978 - 1979.

Bill married Lois Clara Beard on August 15, 1949. Their daughter, Linda Lou Key (Fox) was born in 1950. After their divorce, he married Lucy Helen Howard on Apr. 29, 1952. He adopted her son, William Raymond Key, in 1945.

After Lucy's death, he married Lucille Lee on Nov. 23, 1960. He was stepfather to Lucille's children, Sharon Lee Curry (Swanson), Carolyn Noel Curry (Whitmore), Homer Jay Howard and John Arthur Howard.

After Lucille's death, Bill married Mary Margaret Lee Niblett, on September 29, 1995, and moved from Mesa, AZ to Boise, ID. Their years together were filled with a love for gardening and temple work. Mary's devotion to Bill is legend in the family, as she cared for him during his declining years.

Bill is survived by his wife, Mary Key; his three daughters, Linda, Carolyn and Sharon; and numerous grandchildren.
