Mattie was the daughter of William Henry Moffeit and Martha "Mattie" Norris Bussey Moffiet. On 2 April 1891, Mattie Maud Moffeit and James Bishop Edwards were married in Union Parish, Louisiana. Mattie was a Baptist.

James Norris, Mattie's 4th great grandfather, served in the War of 1812. Two of Mattie's ancestors are documented Daughters of the American Revolution soldiers and patriots. These ancestors are Josiah Norris and James Patrick.

OBITUARY: Mrs. J B EDWARDS, (Dateline, Gibsland, La., Feb. 13) Died at her home near Homer, La. on Thursday after a lingering illness. Interment was in Mt. Lebanon cemetery with Rev. J. C. COX officiating . Besides her husband, she leaves four girls, Ruby, Gladys, Lillian and Eloise; five boys, Garland, Thadius, Claudie E., Cullen, and J. B. EDWARDS, Jr.; two sisters, Mrs. Leonard COBB of Marion, La. and Mrs. James OUTZE of Gibsland, La.
