Obituary in The Bienville Democrat September 11, 1941:

Accidental Death Friday at Pineville Terminates Successful Career of Gibsland Man
Claimed by accidental death at the age of 73 years, after devoting most of his lifetime to the welfare of Bienville Parish, Dr. S.I. Colvin of Gibsland was laid to rest at the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery after funeral services were conducted at his home Saturday morning. Services were conducted by Rev. Hogan Hunter, pastor of the Gibsland Baptist Church and interment was under the direction of the Conger Funeral Home of Arcadia. Active pallbearers were E.W. Nelson, E.L. Reed, Mercer New, W.H. Day, William Garrett, and F.A. Coleman. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of the Gibsland Baptist Church.

Dr. Colvin is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert of Gibsland and Joe of Brookhaven, Miss.; three daughters, Mrs. Aline Reed of Gibsland, Mrs. H.P. McNeil of Mercedes, Teas, and Mrs. O.H. Rowland of Angangueo, Mexico; several grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Harvey Hightower of Houston, Tex. and Mrs. Ben Cargill of Ruston; and one brother, Crawford Colvin of Gibsland.

Dr. Colvin, who had been ill for about a year, was struck accidentally and instantly killed by a truck Friday as he was walking for exercise with a nurse at a Pineville hospital, where he had been confined. It was believed that he had had a stroke when he fell, since he had been weak for some time.

Very active in business until he became ill about a year ago, Dr. Colvin had always been interested in community affairs and had held several positions of trust in Bienville Parish. He was twice mayor of Gibsland and he served as Ward 2 police juror of the Parish from 1936-1940. He made a host of friends while practicing his profession successfully for many years.
