HAZEL SANDER(S), 96 of Cape Girardeau, died Monday Sept. 27, 1999 at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Feb. 17, 1903, at Lakenan, daughter of Luther and Elizabeth May Drye Reynolds. She and Norman E. Sanders were married May 20, 1926, at Dexter. He died in 1983.

Sanders received a bachelor's degree in education from Southeast Missouri State University in 1929. She was a teacher at May Greene Elementary School 10 years.

She had served on the Cape Girardeau Public Library Board of Trustees. She was a member of First Christian Church, was the first woman elected to serve as deaconess in 1934. wrota a 100-year history of the church and served as president of Southeast Missouri 14th District Woman's Missionary Council for State of Missouri.

Sanders was a member of Cape Girardeau Area Association of Retired Teachers of Missouri, Missouri Historical Society in Columbia, Daughters of American Revolution and Daughters of American Colonists.

She was a charter member of Wednesday Club and War of 1812 Society of Missouri.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Moritz of Houston, Texas, two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.

There will be no visitation.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Cape County Memorial Park. The Rev. Phillip Curran will officiate.

Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
