Navy Cross Citation

The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to First Lieutenant Charles I. Murray (MCSN: 0-700), United States Marine Corps, for extraordinary and conspicuous bravery and efficiency while serving with the 79th Company, 6th Regiment (Marines), 2d Division, A.E.F. during the advance upon Bouresches, France, on the night of 6 June 1918. Having been shot through both arms by machine-gun fire and being no longer able to advance, First Lieutenant Murray refused assistance and walked to the rear alone.
