Monty Lynn Heckler was born to Lawrence Melvin and Ruth Evelyn (Bledsoe) in Clark Hospital, Paoli, Orange County, IN on October 6, 1945.

A brother, Jerry Lynn, had died in 1944 at 13 mos. old from an accidental fall from over the arm of a children's rocking chair. Ruth died on May 12, 1999 as a result of a car wreck in Ft. Myers, FL. Melvin died January 8, 2005 from lung cancer in Biloxi, MS.

He had one sister, Chiquita Leilania. The children were raised on and off in French Lick by their maternal grandparents, Albert (Plute) & Dessie (Mickler) Bledsoe. Their dad was in the U.S. Navy for 21 years, and the parents were married and divorced several times throughout their childhood. The kids lived all the way from Rhode Island, down to Key West, FL, and out to Tyler, TX while growing up, and attended many schools in one school year. Monty and Chiquita graduated together from Springs Valley High School in French Lick, IN in 1964. July 12, 2014 saw the celebration of their 50th Class Reunion in French Lick, IN.

Monty married high school sweetheart, Rita Ann Marshall on April 11, 1964 in French Lick, IN. This union produced Monique Rene' and Erich Michael Heckler. Monty never lived long enough to enjoy grandchildren from Erich - Madison, Sydney, Hanna, and Hudson.

Monty was always popular, outgoing and industrious even as a teenager, putting his heart and soul into every endeavor. His charisma never ended. He was very protective of all his family, and a good businessman. He owned and operated a very successful excavation company, H & H Contracting, in French Lick and West Baden, Orange County, IN and lastly in Ft. Myers, Lee County, FL. Monty was well respected and liked in his communities.

Sadly he died in 1980 by a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his broken heart. We continue to miss him terribly, day after day, but as long as our hearts are beating, we will hold him dear and close, and know we will meet again.
