Jerry Lynn Heckler was the first born to Lawrence Melvin and Ruth Evelyn (Bledsoe) Heckler on November 1st, 1943, at the Clark Hospital in Paoli, Indiana. He was delivered by Dr. John K. Spears at 3:40 p.m. at a healthy 8 lbs. 7 ozs.

He was living with his mother and maternal grandparents, Albert and Dessie (Mickler) Bledsoe, in French Lick, while his daddy was serving with the US Navy in Banana River, Florida.

About the time he cut his second little tooth, Jerry was baptized at the United Brethern Church in French Lick by Rev. Elliott on May 21st, 1944, an Easter Sunday.

"Little Buster" celebrated his 1st birthday at home playing with toys and eating ice cream with his mom Ruth, Grandmaw Bledsoe, Daisy Putnam and her toddler daughter, Anne. His 19 year old dad was away at Banana River with the Navy. Also his maternal grandfather, "Plute", was gone all week driving a semi with Wininger Trucking/Hargis Trucking, only coming home on the weekends.

Jerry had his first little haircut on December 1, 1944 at 13 mos. old by Mr. William Andrews.

Then quite tragically, on a Wednesday afternoon, December 13, 1944, when he was but 13 months and 13 days old, a mere 24-1/2 lbs., Jerry fell headfirst over the arm of his little blue overstuffed toddler rocking chair onto a basement floor, sadly breaking his neck. Shortly thereafter, he was allowed to go to sleep by his 17 year old mother, Ruth, nevermore to awaken.

Jerry's funeral was held on Sunday, December 17, 1944 at the United Brethern Church in French Lick and this precious baby was buried in Ames Chapel Cemetery in Abydel (Paoli, IN).

Just an infant when taken, but loved so very much on this earth. Extremely good natured "little Buster" - our brother, Jerry Lynn...Monty & Chiquita.
