Joe "Noah" Woodyard, one-year-old son of Kandi Romero Woodyard and Joe Woodyard, passed away on Monday, August 15, 2011, at Abilene Medical Center. He was born on December 13, 2009 in Abilene.
Joe Noah was born with Menkes Syndrome, also known as Kinky Hair Syndrome. He fought a really tough battle with courage and strength, and a smile on his face. He was truly loved and will be missed dearly. He was our "hero".
The family expresses sincere thanks to all of the family and friends who faithfully and caringly helped with all of the kids throughout Noah's illness.
His paternal grandmother, Debbie Portillo, and maternal great-grandparents, Raymond and Alice Romero and Marcos Jimenez, preceded Noah in death.
Noah is survived by his parents, Joe and Kandi Woodyard of Abilene; brother, Joseph Woodyard; and sisters, Cierra Woodyard and Ellisett Woodyard. Survivors also include his maternal grandparents, Mary Rose and Raymond Romero of Abilene; paternal grandfather, Joe Mac Woodyard of Abilene; paternal great-grandparents, Louis Portillo of Abilene, and Santos Lara of Brenham , Texas; and maternal great-grandmother, Julia Jimenez, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 18, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abilene with Father Robert Bush officiating. Burial will follow in Abilene Municipal Cemetery directed by The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road. A rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Michael Mendoza, Michael Romero, Bobby Romero and Candelario Romero.
