Walter Montgomery Barnes – Age 55 years, died at his residence, 321 West Thirty-first street, yesterday morning at 3:00 o’clock after an illness of six weeks and a relapse of pneumonia. He was a native and lifelong resident of Norfolk and had been associated with the Virginia Electric & Power Company for the past 18 years as switchboard operator.
He was the husband of Mrs. Mamie Holland Barnes and son of the late Walter M. and Clara Allington Barnes. In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. C. C. Barnard, three sons, W. F. Barnes, Hampton, Va.; J. F. Barnes and Charlton S. Barnes; two brothers, Deputy Chief C. C. Barnes of the Fire Department, and S. T. Barnes, all of Norfolk and three grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Barnes will be conducted at the funeral home of E. Lee Cox & Bro., Westover avenue at Manteo street, tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 o’clock. The Rev. W. H. Garman, pastor of Old Zion Christian Church will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park.
