Obituary for Pauline Bobbitt Hansen who died on July 7, 2002.
Funeral services for Newcastle, Wyoming resident, Mrs. Richard (Pauline) Hansen were held on July 12 at the First United Methodist
Church with Rev. Leslie Barnett Officiating. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Newcastle with Order of Eastern Star Graveside rites.
Mrs. Hansen, 91, was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky, on January 13, 1911, to James Henderson and Talitha Cecile (Greene) Bobbitt.
Pauline's early childhood was spent in rural Kentucky near Somerset. Her family moved to Rockville, Indiana, when she was 10 years old and she attended school there through the 10th grade. After her father's death in 1926, Pauline and her mother and siblings moved to Newcastle
to join her grandmother, Alice Jane (McHargue) Bobbitt and her uncle, William Bobbitt, on his ranch that is now the Grieves Ranch, 35 miles southwest of Newcastle.
Pauline attended Newcastle High School her junior and senior years, enjoying her time on the girls' basketball team. She graduated in May
1930 with a normal training degree that qualified her to teach in country schools. Her first teaching position was at Highland Park School on the prairie north of Red Butte, where she taught eight pupils and earned a salary of $65 per month, most of which went to pay her room and board. Pauline taught an additional two years at the Red Butte School and spent her summers attending classes at the University of Wyoming.
On June 20, 1935, Pauline and Richard Hansen married in Hamilton, Ohio, where Pauline had been staying with sisters to care for her mother.
Richard and Pauline returned to Newcastle where they made their home and raised their family. Pauline was an active member of the First
United Methodist church for over 60 years. She was a past Matron and 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a member of
PEO, Chapter X since 1946. She also participated with the dirt Daubers Garden club.
Her hobbies included sewing, crafts, gardening, flower arranging and playing bridge. Pauline was a housewife and mother who loved taking
care of her home and doing things for her family.
Survivors include her husband, Richard; one son, Don Hansen of Newcastle; three daughters: Lynda Berger of London, Ohio, Wanda Gossman of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and Arlene Hansen of Greeley, Colorado; eight grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Ray Bobbitt, Jessie Minter, Jewell Adams, Dan and Don Bobbitt, and Glenda Reed.
