Boss Herbert Rush was the 10th child born to John Alfred Rush and Louisa Isabelle Sheeley Rush. He was born in Tavern, Pulaski, Missouri.

He married Beulah Lee Harper in October 1924 and from this marriage there five children born; Kenneth Miller, Wanda Jane, David Lee, Betty Lou and Herbert Greines Rush. They lived in Fort Worth most of their lives.
