William was one of at least five children born to John Douglas Alcock and Catharine Florence Pfeil who married on 9 Jan. 1897 in Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio. His siblings were Samuel (b.1898), Pauline P. (b.1901), Helen L. (b.1903) and Douglas E. (b.1905). I found them on the 1900 and 1910 Census, living in Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio, where William's father was working as a "day laborer"" in brick manufacturing. After William's father's death in 1914 at age 39, William's mother moved to Lapeer, Lapeer Co., Michigan, where I found her on the 1930 Census, living with daughter Helen.

According to the 1940 Census, William had previously been living in Buffalo, New York.

William married Viola B. Crump on 4 Aug. 1931 in Adams Co., Indiana. On the 1940 Census, they were living in Lapeer, Lapeer Co., Michigan, where William was working as a salesman in a retail department store, and Viola was a nurse in an "institute for the feeble minded". They were living with William's divorced sister Helen Burck and her children. William and Viola had two children as of that census--John W. (b.1938 IN) and Sally A. (b.1946 MI).

William died in 1967 at age 60.
