James M. Stephenson, age 82, died at his home near Crawford Tuesday evening September 1, 1935 after returning home Sunday from an Elk City hospital where he had been for two weeks.
Mr. Stephenson came to this county 35 years ago and located near old Hamburg where he reared his family, playing his part in the development of this country.
He was married 55 years ago. It will be recalled by the family and friends that Rev. Cody performed a very pretty Golden Wedding ceremony for Mr. and Mrs. Stephenson about five years ago, when they resided west of this city.
Mr. Stephenson is survived by his widow and nine children who are: John, Virgil, Ernest and Jim Stephenson, Mrs. J.V. Niece, Mrs. B.M. Ballenger, Mrs. Eve Bowman, Mrs. Sam Barnard and Mrs. Lee McDaniel.
Funeral services were conducted by the Methodist pastor of Reydon, Mr. Stephenson having joined the Methodist church in 1880. He was laid to rest at the Silent Home Cemetery, Roll, Roger Mills County, Oklahoma with Tunnard Funeral Home in charge.
