He was born May 28, 1938, in Cass County, the son of Louis and Fern Cox. He married Mary Kate Ingles on Oct. 12, 1963, and she preceded him in death on May 27, 2000.
He is survived by his companion, Charlotte Nannen of Glasford, with whom he made his home; a daughter, Marsha McBrayer of Florida; a stepdaughter, Kristine Nelson of Peoria; two granddaughters, Kathi and Kimberly Nelson, both of Peoria; three great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two brothers, Norman Cox (wife, Joan) of Galesburg and Donald Cox (wife, Sue) of Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Gerald, Eugene and Carl Cox; and three sisters, Alberta Dearing, Betty Kanohi and, in infancy, Mary J. Cox.
Mr. Cox served with the U.S. Army from 1961 to 1963.
He was briefly employed at Hiram Walker Distillery in Peoria prior to working 30 years for Caterpillar Inc. of Peoria.
An avid outdoorsman, Jack enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the NRA.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Virginia. The family will meet friends from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of services.
Memorial gifts are suggested to First Presbyterian Church of Virginia or to Graham Hospital Home Health and Hospice.
