He was born Sept. 1, 1927, in Virginia, the son of Louis and Fern (Dupes) Cox. He married Sylvia "Sue" Noel on Nov. 11, 1950, in Virginia, and she preceded him in death on June 11, 2014.
He is survived by one daughter, Kay Reynolds (husband, Don) of Virginia; eight grandchildren, Mike Reynolds (wife, Julie), Paul Reynolds (wife, Amy), Melanie Reynolds, Andrea Reynolds, Brad Scott (wife, Missy), and Kirk Scott, all of Virginia, Kelsi Cox of Goreville and Louis Cox; and ten great grandchildren, Madison, Chloe, Briley, Hailey, Samantha, Megan, Steven, Brady, Mallory and Alex. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, Randy Cox; two daughters, Donna Sue Cox in infancy and Patti Diane Scott (surviving husband, Bill of Virginia); two grandchildren, Kayla Sue in infancy and Derek; and two sisters, and four brothers, Betty, Alberta, Gene, Norman, Jack and Gerald.
Don had worked for the Cass County Highway Department and later retired from Illinois Valley Paving. He served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1952 and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Virginia. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved tending to his beautiful vegetable garden. He was a jack-of-all-trades and could repair anything. Don truly enjoyed watching his grandkids and great grandkids play sports. He especially enjoyed sitting on his backyard swing visiting with family and friends.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Virginia with burial at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
